In addition to being the home of the amazing Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the historic building plays host to a variety of meetings and concerts. The extraordinary Tabernacle organ was built by Joseph Harris Ridges from timber taken from the Parowan and Pine Valley Mountains, which are 300 miles south of Salt Lake City. Eventually, the organ was rebuilt, electrified, and enlarged to be able to contain the 11,623 pipes. For more information, visit http://www.lds.org/placestovisit/location/0,10634,1888-1-1-1,00.html.

Salt Lake Temple on Temple Square. The centerpiece of Temple Square is, not surprisingly, the 6-spired granite Salt Lake Temple. The cornerstone of the temple’s foundation was laid by Brigham Young on April 6, 1853. Many problems slowed down the process and the edifice wasn’t completed until 40 years later in 1893. There are no tours inside the temple. However, you are invited to stroll through the fragrant flower gardens and view the angel Moroni that sits atop the temple.
