Activities, Attractions and Points of Interest:Salt Lake City is an excellent base for skiing and snowboarding, and there are also plenty of opportunities for hiking and other warm-weather activities just outside the city in the 1.3-million acres of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Another good source of information is the nonprofit Public Lands Information Center (tel. 801/466-6411) located in the REI building. Spectator Sports: If you want to take in a minor league baseball game, the Pacific Coast League’s Salt Lake Stingers (tel. 801/485-3800), a Triple-A affiliate of the Anaheim Angels, plays at Franklin Covey Field, at the intersection of 1300 South and West Temple. The University of Utah’s Runnin’ Utes and Lady Utes (tel. 801/581-8849) compete in 10 women’s and 9 men’s Division I sports (the women’s gymnastics team is phenomenal). Tickets are usually available on fairly short notice, although it’s best to call far in advance for football games.
